2018 Volunteer Appreciation Evening: Wine tasting and tapas to highlight incredible volunteers

On April 24th, the RMC Senior Staff Mess Hall hosted a fabulous evening in recognition of the amazing volunteers from CFB Kingston.  The evening consisted of mingling, wine tasting, live classical piano, an abundance of tapas, and door prizes for the volunteers.

The annual event is funded by the local CANEX, Canada’s Military store. CANEX, which sells everything from military clothing for the entire family to appliances for the kitchen, was originally established as a retail store to ensure the needs to the military community were met.  Today, the CANEX store is open to the public, and encourages everyone to shop at the CFB Kingston CANEX store to support local military. This year, new manager Heather Decloux presented the cheque on behalf of the Kingston CANEX store in the amount of $3,950.00.  Without their continued support and generosity, events such as this would not be possible.

A huge thank you goes out to Ian Nicholls of County Sips: Wine Tours by Ian, who was the sommelier for the evening, leading the wine tasting aspect of the event. Another thank you goes to Ian Wong, a local, classically trained pianist who graced our volunteers with lovely music throughout the entire evening. Thank you to both Andy Sakell and Lori Alves-Macphail of the RMC Senior Staff Mess, who were responsible for orchestrating the delicious food which was enjoyed by everyone. They created a welcoming atmosphere that was both warm and inviting to celebrate the hard work and success of the volunteers.

Again, CFB Kingston would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards each and every one of the volunteers who have helped to make this year a successful one.
