2022 CAF National Soccer Championship

Members of the Defence Team faced off against one another as part of a friendly competition at CFB Kingston during the week of 26 September to 1 October, 2022 for this year’s CAF National Soccer Championship.

Captain Kaylee Carlisle, a logistics officer currently posted to CFB Kingston at 1 Wing HQ said that this year’s annual championship allowed players to “get back to old teammates after a long separation, and play against friends.”

For the championship, eight teams – four women’s and four men’s – came together to represent Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Canada West, and Quebec to compete for the title of CAF National Soccer Champions.

Capt Carlisle was one of the many female athletes representing Ontario this year. She was selected to represent Ontario after a strong performance at the regional competition, where up to five players per division were chosen.

Athletes are selected to play on their respective regional teams through scouting at regional competitions, which ultimately creates a team representing one base or wing from its Canadian region.

The women’s team from 8 Wing Trenton, representing Ontario, were victorious, and were undefeated throughout their games. In the men’s competition, the winner was the team from CFB Valcartier, representing the Quebec region.

According to Capt Carlisle, CAF sports are important to athletes because they serve as “a way to bring together friends and competitors from across the country,” while allowing athletes to continue to practice their sport well into their careers.

CFB Kingston thanks everyone who put in efforts to organize and run the 2022 CAF National Soccer Championship, and congratulates all of the athletes on their hard work on and off the field. The team spirit and excitement was felt all throughout the week, with constant cheering and encouragement from the sidelines.

Hosted by Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Kingston’s Personnel Support Program, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members from across the country representing Canada West, Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces, come together to compete in the CAF National Soccer Championship at CFB Kingston.
