CFB Kingston doubles amount raised for Soldier On program
On March 23rd-25th, CFB Kingston held the second annual 24-Hour Curling Bonspiel at the Garrison Golf & Curling Club, in support of the Soldier On program. $20,000 was raised for this event, which is more than double the funds raised in the event’s first year. Needless to say, the military and extended community of Kingston have pulled together once again to to support a great cause.
Since 2007, Soldier On’s initiative has been to “provide resources and opportunities for serving and retired Canadian Armed Forces personnel with a mental or physical injury or illness to participate in physical, recreational or sporting activities.” To date, Soldier On has 3,500 ill and injured members, with $5 million invested in their people.
The 24-Hour Curling Bonspiel consisted of eight 16-person teams, totalling a great turnout of 128 players. Congratulations to Team Bennett’s Valu-Mart, who won the entire bonspiel. Way to go!
Another congratulations goes out to Linda Lott, Laura Wint, Jeff Aman, Johanne Gilbert and Peter Loon who all took home $100 of travel vouchers thanks to their pledging donations. A massive congratulation goes again to Johanne Gilbert, who raised over $1000 herself, taking home the top prize: $200 in VIA Rail travel vouchers as the top pledger. Congrats!
Finally, thank you to all who participated, sacrificing sleep for a night of curling fun while supporting an amazing cause. The Curling Committee is grateful to all and is looking forward to continued success at the next edition.
