Absence Support and Connections

Military-Family

With the aim of providing meaningful connection opportunities to military children experiencing the absence of a parent, the KMFRC is proud to offer Absence Support & Connections. This unique peer-support group & workshop provides an opportunity for families experiencing the absence of their CAF member to connect with other families. This event is open to all family members with a dedicated focus that supports children and adults within these families separately. Military children endure a unique and individual emotional journey during the absence of a parent. Absence Support & Connections will offer an opportunity for children to gather alongside their peers in a supervised separate space to engage in an emotionally supportive and resiliency-based activity. Spouses with or without children and members of the absent CAF member’s family are encouraged to take part in peer connection to strengthen their support network within the community while also learning more about absence support and resources.

This program will run on the 2nd Wednesday of every month starting in June. During our June Absence Support & Connections, spouses and adult family members will be encouraged to engage in open conversation while the children will have the opportunity to create a Dream Pillowcase to take home as a personalized connection between themselves and their loved one who is away; the KMFRC will provide all supplies needed to create the Dream Pillowcase at no cost to families.
