April is the Month of the Military Child

April was first designated as the Month of the Military Child in 1986, by the U.S. Secretary of Defence. In recent years, Canada has also recognized this special month, and honoured the unique challenges and sacrifices of children in military families. Military children are often compared to dandelions – like those hardy plants, which go wherever the wind carries them, children in military families may travel in many directions, and bloom where they’re planted!

This year, the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre is celebrating the Month of the Military Child with a community-based t-shirt design initiative. Family-friendly words that represent the military family lifestyle will be used in the design of a limited edition, commemorative Month of the Military Child t-shirt.

Stay tuned for our Month of the Military Child event full of family-friendly activities to be held on April 28th. Everyone will be encouraged to wear their t-shirts throughout the month of April, but especially on April 28th when we will take a group photo of everyone in their t-shirts.
