The Chief of Defence Staff has released BALANCE, the new Canadian Armed Forces Physical Performance Strategy, to support CAF leadership and personnel in their efforts to build a culture of fitness, improve physical performance and increase operational effectiveness.
Produced by CAF with PSP and CF Health Services support the Strategy is a tangible demonstration of the CAF renewed emphasis on its people by investing in the CAF/DND Total Health and Wellness strategy, including the Physical Performance Strategy, as outlined in the 2017 Defence Policy Strong Secure Engaged. All the strategies align with the ever-present collective responsibility to develop and sustain a strong, healthy and fit military.
This Strategy is about balance, as its name suggests. It focuses on the important interplay between physical activity, nutrition, adequate sleep and injury prevention, all of which are required for operational readiness and lifelong wellness. The strategy notes that balance is also required between the organization, leadership and individuals in maintaining healthy behaviours that will extend beyond service to the CAF.
