I am considering putting in a grievance as my OC hasn’t been treating me fairly and won’t recognize my contributions in my PER. What should I do?
Good news, there are a number of resolution options available to assist with your situation. First, ask yourself “What does resolution look like for me?” Your answer is critical to being able to make an informed choice as aligning your desired resolution outcome to the available choices will increase the likelihood of success.
Your first consideration should be informal options. Perhaps you could initiate a conversation with your OC or submit a memo outlining your concerns. You can also submit a Notice of Intent to Grieve (NOI), which outlines your complaint and provides the chain of command an opportunity to address the issue informally. If addressing your concerns informally is neither desirable nor successful, formal options can be also considered. Remember that a grievance must be submitted within three months of a decision, act or omission; bear this in mind as you weigh your options. Your unit can provide an Assisting Officer to help with the process.
Whether you attempt informal or formal resolution, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is available at any stage of the process. There are many services that fall within ADR, such as leader-assisted discussion, facilitation, mediation, and conflict coaching. A CCMS Agent is a valuable resource and can provide information and guidance on all your available options and assist you in making an informed choice.
