Sadly, as of September 22nd, we have officially left the summer behind for another year. There are many of us that are more than excited to welcome the fall, and all of its sweater-wearing pumpkin-spice goodness. Besides grabbing your PSL at Starbucks and favourite pies at Costco, there are a ton of local farms that provide lots to see, taste and experience during the fall.
I’ve created a list of a few amazing Kingston and Area farms and activities that are a must-see this autumn (and any other time of the year)!
Pumpkin Fest 2021
Prince Edward County’s annual Pumpkin Fest features a parade, pumpkin weigh-off, contests, games, food and entertainment, in the beautiful setting of PEC. Many local business collaborate to host an amazing event for all ages! This year’s pumpkin weigh-off will be Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 12:00 pm, at 111 Belleville St., Wellington, ON. Salt of the Earth Farms (Self-Serve Farm Stands), 1054 Hwy 2 East, Kingston and 357 Sweet’s Corners Road, Lyndhurst
Salt of the Earth offers Self-Served, honours based farm stands where you can pick up various fresh vegetables, eggs and other options to bring home to your family! This is perfect when you are craving delicious farm produce, but don’t have time to go outside of Kingston, or to make a day-trip to a farm!
Wynn Farms, 8191 Hwy 33, Greater Napanee, ON
Wynn farms is a beautiful location filled with fun for the whole family! They boast a pumpkin patch, apple picking (with 10 varieties of apples!), a children’s Halloween event, Haunted HalloWYNN and of course their famous corn maze (for extra fun try a Moonlight Corn Maze!). They have lots to see and do, especially during the fall. Did I mention they make their own candied apples?
Fruition Berry Farm, 3208 Hughes Road Kingston, Ontario, Canada
Fruition Berry Farm offers an amazing Pumpkin Patch! The farm is open every Saturday and Sunday in September and October between the hours of 10am-4pm (weather permitting). They also have a wonderful corn maze and will be hosting a trick-or-treat event in the maze on October 31st!
Hagerman Farms, 13644 Loyalist Pkwy, Picton
This is one of my favourite places to visit in the fall! Hagerman Farms is a family farm located just outside of Picton with a seasonal farm stand of vegetables, flowers, eggs and fruit. Make sure to stock up on local dairy, treats, and fresh-made eats in the bakery at the back. You won’t be disappointed!
For the Animal lovers:
Happy Tales Animal Sanctuary, 3225 Wilton Rd, Harrowsmith, ON
Located roughly 35 minutes out of Kingston in Harrowsmith, ON, Happy Tales Animal Sanctuary “focuses on providing a safe, inclusive and educational environment for community groups, schools, children with special needs and ill or injured Veterans.” They offer educational experiences and of course, a look at the beautiful animals that they have rehabilitated and homed!
Barking Goat Farm, 13 McGill road, Centreville
You can book a 1 hour farm tour (cost by donation) on their Facebook page. The tour includes cuddling with their goats as well as visiting and learning about their chickens, donkey, mule and life on the farm! They also have a farm stand with lots of goodies open from 9-6 daily.
Noble Beast Farms, 14935 Loyalist Parkway Bloomfield ON
This quirky little Alpaca farm and rescue is located on the Loyalist Parkway. It offers a few different options for tours (must be booked in advanced), as well as Alpaca adoption, and of course wonderful and cozy Alpaca yarn and socks!
These are just a few of the picturesque fall activities that Kingston and the surrounding areas offer. Make sure you check out other local options via Facebook or googling fall events or Kingston farm’s near me. If nothing else, the drive out of the city into the country is an event in itself, featuring our beautiful cascades of colourful fall foliage.
