This week, CFB Kingston is highlighting MCpl Valery Switzer, from Laval, QC, for her outstanding work and determination both in and out of uniform. MCpl Switzer works in the transport sector of the Logistics Support Squadron as the base dispatch 2IC advance booker. By trade, she is a Mobile Support Equipment Operator. MCpl Switzer’s job is multi-faceted, often involving interactions with many other actors on the base as well as in the local community. This responsibility requires her to stay on top of finances, personnel management, and the movement of vehicles and people. With a position that relies so heavily on customer service and communication, MCpl Switzer must remain sharp and prepared for her fast-paced environment.
Outside of work, MCpl Switzer is also the mother of two children, leaving her days busy and demanding. During her most recent maternity leave, MCpl Switzer dove into powerlifting. In March of 2022, MCpl Switzer competed in her first powerlifting competition at the Canadian Powerlifting League in Kingston, and she placed first in her weight category, as pictured. “As a woman, it’s very empowering to be lifting heavy,” she says, while describing how this sport has improved her confidence and resilience. MCpl Switzer powerlifts not only to stay healthy, but primarily to be able to show up every day for herself, her kids, and her family as the best version of herself. MCpl Switzer is looking forward to competing this summer in the national competition at the Canadian Powerlifting League in Nanton, Alberta on August 20th. This competition will be live streamed for anyone in Canada to tune in.
MCpl Switzer excels in her passions just as she does in the workplace, with her mentality being to prioritize good work and attitude. MCpl Switzer sets out to see the human behind every uniform, and treats everyone she encounters with kindness. MCpl Switzer embodies a true role model in the CAF through her passion, drive, and empathy toward others. Thank you MCpl Switzer for all that you do behind the scenes for CFB Kingston.
