A day dedicated for Youth ages 13-18, to learn about self care hosted by the KMFRC Mental Health and Wellness team and the Military Family Navigators!

This event is open to all youth aged 13-18 in the CAF Community. CAF community refers to Regular, Reserve, Retired military members and family members, as well as DND civilian staff and their families.

The event will include:

Yoga – One hour yoga session, welcoming all levels of yoga from beginner to intermediate. This will create a safe place to practice yoga, focused on movement and the benefits of yoga. In addition to improving strength, balance and flexibility, this practice also helps regulate your nervous system, increase mental energy, and promote self care.

This event will take place from 9am-10am. Please bring your own yoga mat! If you do not have one, there will be some on site for you to borrow.

Meditation and Mindfulness for Youth with Andrea Pritchard – Join us for an exploration of eating, walking, sitting, thinking and feeling in a whole new way. Meditation and mindfulness allow us to experience all the small and big things we encounter in our lives in a whole new way. Not right away, but slowly, over time…The big worries shrink. Funny things are funnier. Sad things aren’t something to run away from. We notice what we eat. We question what we think. Life just feels different. There will be some talking (mostly by Andrea), some eating, some walking, some sitting, the hour will blow by. We promise!

This event will take place from 10am -11am. Please bring your own yoga mat! If you do not have one, there will be some on site for you to borrow.

Setting Healthy Boundaries with Sarah Green – Join one of the KMFRC’s counsellor, Sarah Green, as she discusses the importance of setting healthy boundaries, the benefits to you and your relationships, and how it can offer a sense of control over your emotional and physical space. By learning how to set and maintain boundaries, you can develop independence and engage in healthy, positive connections with others.

This event will take place from 11am -12 pm.

Self Defense – Join Steve Nash as he offers a self defense/martial arts class, focusing on the tools and skills needed to confidently assess a dangerous situation and navigate through it effectively. This is a perfect way to try a new activity, which also helps improve focus, concentration, physical fitness and balance.

This event will take place from 1pm-2pm

Cyber Safety – Join the Kingston Police as they offer a session on cyber safety. This interactive conversation will teach you the do’s and don’t for online safety and how to identify dangers and how to keep yourself safe online.

This event will take place from 2pm-3pm. All events will take place at the KMFRC gym. There will be lunch provided for participates who are registered for the full day. Snacks and refreshments will be offered throughout the day as well as resources available for you to take home.
