In a remarkable display of shooting excellence, innovative technology, and collaboration, the Kingston Garrison Shooting Club (KGSC) hosted a night shooting competition on 9 June 2023 at Canadian Forces Base Kingston. This thrilling event brought together KGSC members, night vision vendor Cold Harbour Supply (CHS), and a small group of Carleton University Firearms Association (CFA) representatives to celebrate marksmanship, observe the advancements in night vision technology, and foster connections within the shooting community.
Competitors at the KGSC Spring Night Match showcased remarkable skill and adaptability as they navigated through intricate courses and engaged challenging targets using flashlights in low-light conditions; these conditions added complexity to the competition, highlighting the participants’ reliance on marksmanship abilities, situational awareness, and adaptability. While night vision was not utilized during the competition itself, CHS played a role by demonstrating their cutting-edge equipment, adding an exciting technological dimension to the event. This offered participants and spectators a firsthand experience of the capabilities and potential applications of the latest night vision technology in both competitive and civilian settings. The collaboration between the KGSC and CHS was primarily focused on showcasing the technology’s capabilities, underscoring the KGSC’s dedication to providing a valuable demonstration while maintaining transparency and unbiased representation.
This event exemplified the KGSC’s commitment to safety, excellence, and innovation in shooting sports. Furthermore, it served as a platform for the CFA to participate and engage in discussions with CHS and with KGSC members, facilitating knowledge-sharing, networking, and the promotion of responsible firearm practices among shooting enthusiasts and future professionals.
