Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC) Partial Reopening 6 July 2020

The KMFRC staff worked diligently behind the scenes to prepare for our much anticipated partial reopening on Monday 06 July. We are pleased to be able to share with you the services and procedures that we are implementing into our day to day operations so that we may continue to provide support to our CAF families with a safe and welcoming environment in compliance with KFL & A Public Health and CFB Kingston guidelines.

The KMFRC will be partially open effective 06 July 2020 by appointment only. Some services will be available by appointment (virtual or in person) for the following departments:

  • Mental Health and Wellness
  • Welcome and Information
  • LPA Accounts Receivables
  • Deployment
  • Employment
  • Child and Youth Development
  • Special Needs Inclusion & Parent Support
  • Veteran Family Program
  • Volunteer Services

We invite you to please, contact KMFRC Reception at kmfrc@forces.gc.ca or call 613-541-5010 x 5195 to speak with a Receptionist with any questions and to book an appointment. The KMFRC Reception hours of operation are Monday to Friday between 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

To connect with our Special Needs Inclusion team, please call 613-541-5010 x 5929. SNI intake voice mail is checked weekly on Wednesdays.

SAFETY PROCEDURES

Anyone intending to enter the KMFRC will be asked to screen themselves for COVID-19 prior to entering the building. Staff and families entering the KMFRC must sign in and adhere to strict physical distancing and handwashing guidelines provided by our Public health officials. Staff and families will be asked to wear a non-medical mask at all times.

At time of booking appointments, clients will be asked to arrive at their allotted appointment time, self-screen for COVID-19 and bring and wear their own masks. Clients will be expected to wear masks whilst at the KMFRC.

Mental Health and Wellness

The Kingston Mental Health and Wellness team’s purpose is to provide Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) families, including the ill and injured with short-term clinical counselling as well as access to appropriate mental health resources. The Mental Health intake voice mail is checked every two (2) business days and our Mental Health and Wellness team provides safe, secure Telehealth counselling services via phone or Zoom Business Telehealth. Family Information Line (FIL) is available to you 24/7 offering immediate and confidential bilingual emotional support, referrals, and information for CAF families and their extended family members. To contact the FIL please call 1-800-866-4546

CF Member Assistance Program (CFMAP) provides immediate and confidential 24/7 bilingual counselling services for CAF members and their dependents. To contact CFMAP please call 1-800-268-7708

Veteran Family Program

In partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and Military Family Services (MFS), the KMFRC proudly launched the Veteran Family Program (VFP) in the 2018/2019 fiscal year. The VFP is a national program that supports medically releasing Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Members, and medically released Veterans and their families, with standardized transition programs as well as information & referral services, as they transition from the CAF to civilian life. Individuals are able to access the program regardless of when released.

The VFP services and resources are designed to help ease the transition of families and support their health and well-being throughout the process. The KMFRC’s Veteran Family Program Coordinator provides safe, secure support services via phone or Zoom Business Telehealth. Virtual Welcome, Information & Integration

We strive to help CAF families with each step of their relocation. Our purpose is to enhance the quality of life in CFB Kingston, by warmly welcoming new CAF families into the community and providing pertinent information and resources about KMFRC and community programming.

Virtual Deployment Support

Virtual Deployment Support and programming is offered by KMFRC’s Military Family Support Services Coordinator. Weekly, Virtual Deployment Coffee on Zoom Business Telehealth and personalized pre-deployment, deployment, and reintegration support are all provided virtually. Families are updated via email on a regular basis and wellness calls are conducted when requested.

We recognize that a deployment can be a very stressful time for families, and those stressors can be different for everyone. However, given these uncertain times, the stressors can be escalated for families, and the KMFRC Team is here to support CAF families. By electing services, your loved ones will be contacted and advised of what resources are available to them and any updates will be provided as they become available. Les Petits Amis/Child and Youth Development Program (LPA) – Facebook page

Les Petits Amis/Child and Youth Development Program’s Facebook page offers resources and information sharing for individuals and families in the CAF community seeking local Child and Youth programming. This group is also a place for parents of children attending Les Petits Amis Childcare Centre to receive updates, information, and touch base with the Daycare Supervisors and Staff. To support the delivery of virtual programs and services, volunteer onboarding is being conducted virtually. Family Network Program

The Family Network Program supports CAF families with the challenges associated with deployment, separation, and relocation, primarily through our unit specific Facebook pages. This platform allows CAF families within the same CAF member’s unit to build family and community connections. The KMFRC moderates these pages to ensure consistency and provide up-to-date resources. Virtual Bilingual Story Time

Virtual Bilingual Story Time is a parent and child interactive program delivered weekly on Zoom Business Telehealth. This program offers story time, activities for extending learning at home, and a brief discussion and question period where families and children can connect. The KMFRC’s Child Development Worker, Arianne, provides educational, bilingual videos with content and resources for parents and their children. Programming includes songs, story time, crafts, sensory activities, physical activities, learning activities, recipes and culinary ideas, and resource sharing. Virtual Continuing the Connection (Parent Support and Education Services)
