The KMFRC Mental Health and Wellness team and Military Family Navigators are teaming up to host the second Wellness Day just for YOUth!
The Youth Wellness Day will be held on Wednesday, August 14th from 9 am to 3 pm at the KMFRC and is open to youth between the ages of 13 to 18 that are part of the CAF* community.
Current research suggests that due to the distinct and challenging stressors unique to military families, military youth are at a greater risk of experiencing episodes of poor mental health and wellbeing. Mahar et al. (2023) found that youth who are connected to military families are at an increased risk of poor mental health, 28% more than youth not connected to a military family**.
The KMFRC is here to help with valuable resources and self-care opportunities offered throughout the day. This will include wellness focused activities such as yoga, iRest, a visit from service/ intervention dogs that are part of Ability Dogs Canada, and the opportunity to learn about the Medicine Wheel. Stay tuned for more details to follow later. To register for this event, please visit our website and for more information please call 613-541-5010 ext. 5195.
The KMFRC also offers individual therapy for youth with Theresa Brannen, KMFRC Youth Counsellor. To access these services, please reach out to Mental Health and Wellness Navigator Heather Brace at 613-541-5010 extension 3296.
* CAF community refers to Regular, Reserve, Retired military members and family members, as well as DND civilian staff and their families.
