Finding a family doctor can be difficult. Kingston has had a shortage of family physicians for the last few years. It’s difficult to find a doctor who accepts new patients, and it’s even more difficult to find a French-speaking doctor.
To assist military families in their search, Military Family Services (MFS) and Calian Health created the Military Family Doctor Network. The goal of this partnership is to increase access to family physicians for the families of serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Registration is quick and easy. You can go online and complete the registration form available here or call 1-877-633-7722 x550. Once you’re registered, your name will be put on a waiting list. Your place on the waiting list will depend on your priority. The waiting time may vary depending on your medical situation. Please note that families who have received a posting message to CFB Kingston can register prior to their arrival.
We also recommend that you register with Health Care Connect. Health Care Connect helps Ontarians find health care providers. A valid Ontario Health Card is required to register. You can register online by clicking here or by calling 1-800-445-1822.
To improve your chances of getting a family doctor and reduce waiting times, we recommend that you register with the Military Family Doctor Network and Health Care Connect.
Since the pandemic started, a number of websites have been created so that you can consult a doctor virtually from the comfort of your home. Some services are offered in French. An Ontario Health Card may be required. Military families can consult a doctor free of charge through Maple. However, you’ll need a CFOne Card. If you don’t have a CFOne Card, you can get a temporary number by contacting the Family Information Line at 1-800-866-4546.
Are you looking for a walk-in clinic, or do you want to see a doctor virtually? Please visit the KMFRC Health Care Resources. It has many useful resources if you need a medical consultation when you don’t have a health care provider.
Lastly, if your family is moving away from Kingston in the near future, remember to notify your doctor. It may help another family find a health care provider.
Please contact us if you have any questions. We’ll be happy to help you.
