Message from the Base Commander

Col Gallinger

I hope you had a wonderful summer. For those new to Kingston, welcome to the Base and to a fantastic community. For those returning from leave, welcome back.

As routines smooth out after the back to school rush, it’s time to dive in and get involved. September is an exciting month.

On September 20, the Garrison kicked off its annual Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign with a pancake breakfast at Thompson Drill Hall. The Defence Team here in Kingston plays a critical role in helping to address the increasingly complex needs that exist within our community. Your generosity truly makes a difference. Join us Friday morning from 7 a.m. to 9 am.

If you haven’t joined a CFB Kingston sports team, don’t miss out! The teams have had some great successes recently. The CFB Kingston Women’s Golf and Soccer Teams both won regionals. As a result of their wins, five women were selected to represent the CAF at the All for One Cup hosted by the Toronto Football Club. Additionally, Base Kingston won the St. Lawrence Cup, the 69th annual golf tournament against Fort Drum / 10th Mountain Division.

Garrison Family Fun Fest on September 7-8 was a great success. Thank you to the amazing team, led by PSP Kingston, who made this event not only possible, but wonderful. And thank you to the 12,000 people who attended.

On September 13, a group of 700 military members, families, kids on foot or in strollers, some very energetic dogs and one tortoise gathered in the chilly morning air at the McNaughton parade square for our annual Terry Fox run. The runners raised 1,300$ for the fight against cancer and helped to celebrate the legacy of a true Canadian hero.

Fall individual training is underway across the Garrison – our classrooms, quarters and dining facilities are at capacity. At the same time, many units continue to support operations around the world as well as emerging operational tasks.

To conclude, CWO Cartier and I continue to be impressed by the high quality of work that happens across the Base and how units and individuals step up to help each other.

I encourage you to visit our Base Intranet site and the Kingston portal of the CAF Connections site. Both sites showcase what is happening around the Base and the wide range of services that are available to you.
