Message from the Base Commander

Col Gallinger

Summer is here, and it’s a hot one! I hope you are getting outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. I recommend visiting Arrowhead Beach, where you can enjoy the sand with family and friends and cool off in the water whenever you need. Just don’t forget sunscreen and a water bottle!

To all those newly posted to CFB Kingston, welcome. Whether it’s your first posting to the base, a return visit or you are a long-time resident, I hope that your time here is rewarding, both personally and professionally.

I invite you and your family to come out to Garrison Family Fun Fest. The Garrison’s annual appreciation event helps us celebrate our great community, and this year’s iteration is shaping up to be a lively one. Live music, food and drink, rides and bouncy castles! You’ll find all of these on September 7th & 8th, 2019.

Your safety is a priority for me, and I am introducing a web-based mass notification system (MNS) to CFB Kingston this summer to make sure that all base personnel are informed in the event of a critical incident, such as an active aggressor or a bomb threat. You will receive an email from the MNS in the coming weeks requiring you to activate your account. It will be marked as SUSPECTED SPAM by DWAN. Let me assure you that it is not. Please read the article, Be Aware of a Crisis, in this newsletter for more information.

Finally, I would like to welcome our Base Chief, CWO Martin Cartier. We both look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the coming year.
