Message from the Command Team – August 2024

August at CFB Kingston is a busy month with personnel moving in and out of the base, families enjoying summer leave, and troops deploying on overseas missions. The CFB Kingston Command Team hopes that all our serving members and civilian employees have enjoyed some sunny days, whether swimming, boating, cycling, using the new Water Taxi running to downtown Kingston, or enjoying one of the many festivals here in Kingston and the surrounding areas. Don’t forget that Base services are available to keep you fit and healthy, including free rentals at Arrowhead beach, the new bike repair stands around base, and the Beaver Fit outdoor fitness boxes.

This month, we are celebrating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People on August 9th. This year is focusing on ‘Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact’. Indigenous Peoples in voluntary isolation and initial contact are the best protectors of the forest. Where their collective rights to lands and territories are protected, the forests thrive alongside their societies.

Also on August 9th is National Peacekeepers’ Day. Established in Canada in 2008, it provides an opportunity for Canadians to express the pride and respect they have toward personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and provincial and municipal police forces, as well as Canadian diplomats and civilians who have worked in support of international peace and security operations. Since 1948, more than 125,000 Canadian peacekeepers have participated in dozens of international efforts all over the world.

We also invite you to mark your calendars for the upcoming Public Service Pride Week, happening during the third week of August. From August 19 to 23, we unite to honour, learn, celebrate, and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and allies across the public service. This year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” underscores the commitment to fostering inclusion and unity in the face of adversity.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to making CFB Kingston a great place to live, work, and play. Enjoy your summer!
