Message from the Command Team – June 2024

CDS Flag at CFBKingston.

Prepare for an active month ahead as we gear up for a busy June filled with various events and activities. Mark your calendars for the CFB Kingston Connect-a-thon on June 1, the Cannonball Crush on Friday, June 7, 2024 and Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16th, among other happenings this month.

June holds significance as Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month. On the 21st of June we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. It’s crucial to recognize the invaluable contributions of both communities to Canada’s defense throughout history and their ongoing impact.

During Canadian Environmental Week from June 2nd to 8th, 2024, we encourage participation in the Kingston Commuter Challenge. This initiative promotes active and eco-friendly commuting. Individuals or units can sign up, with a Roll-in breakfast hosted by PSP on June 3rd from 0700-0900hrs at the CANEX parking lot, offering insights on registration and a chance to win a $2,500 E-Bike provided by CFB Kingston Eco Team.

On June 21, 2024, CFB Kingston will hold a Transfer of Command Authority (TOCA) ceremony alongside a Change of Appointment, symbolizing the transition of command and leadership roles within the Base. Lieutenant Colonel C.I. Clark, CD, will hand over duties to Base Commander Designate, Colonel J.C. Scott, CD. At the same time, there will be a Change of Appointment between CWO S. P. Prendergast, MMM, CD and Base Chief Warrant Officer Designate, CWO L.A. Flowers, MMM, CD.

As this will be my last opportunity to engage with you through our Command Team Message, I want to take this opportunity to personally say “THANK YOU” to the entire Defence Team and your families for making these last three years as BCWO so memorable. CFB Kingston is truly an awesome place to work and the strong sense of community that exists here makes it an amazing place to live.

Healthcare for dependents remains a top priority for CFB Kingston. Utilize Healthcare Connect, an online system, to register locally for healthcare services. Registration with the Frontenac, Lennox, Addington, and Ontario Health Team site is vital, particularly for the anticipated 15,000 Kingstonians seeking primary care providers over the next year. While registration doesn’t guarantee placement, it maximizes opportunities as spaces become available. https://flaoht.ca/pages/hcc

As always, prioritize safety and embrace the abundance of experiences awaiting you and your family this summer within the base and the vibrant city of Kingston.
