As we enter the month of May, we want to remind our Defence Team and our families about the importance of community and taking care of each other. May is an exciting month in which we celebrate both Asian Heritage Month and Canadian Jewish Heritage Month. It’s an opportunity to recognize the rich cultural diversity that makes our team strong. We encourage everyone to learn more about these communities, their history, and their contributions to our society.

May 14th marks Mother’s Day, a time for us to acknowledge the hard work and dedication mothers put into our military families. To all mothers in CAF families, thank you for the work you do and the sacrifices you make. Our families are a significant source of support, and it does not go unnoticed.

As we continue to strive to be good stewards of the environment, we want to thank everyone who participated in the base clean-up at the end of April. It’s good to see so many people come together to clean up after the spring thaw and to make a positive impact on our community. Our commitment to stewardship extends beyond this one event, and we encourage everyone to continue to look for ways to reduce waste and conserve resources.

With the warmer weather it’s been nice to see more people getting active outside and we want to acknowledge and congratulate those who participated in last month’s CFB Kingston Lift-Off competition at the base gym. Physical fitness is key to readiness, and seeing members strive to be their best, is inspiring.

On May 17th is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. Exclusion has no place within our organization and there will be a morning Pride Flag Raising at McNaughton Gate to show our commitment to culture change. All personnel are welcome to join.

Posting season is fast approaching, and we will be welcoming new and returning members to our team. We urge all of you to take the time to reach out and offer support to those who are new to our community, as they begin to settle in and make connections. It’s important that we continue to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their background or experience.

For those posted, we encourage you to attend the BGRS Info Session on May 18th at the Knowlton Theater. These info sessions can help you navigate the challenges of postings; the April session included great information and guidance for those going through a move.

Finally, we want to remind everyone that we are all part of a team, working towards a common goal. Whether it’s through supporting operations, looking after our team members and families, or contributing to the wider community, every action we take has an impact. We all must continue to work together, look out for one another, and strive for excellence in everything we do.
