Message from the Command Team – September 2024

Canadian Forces Base Kingston Command Team, Base Commander Colonel Scott and Base Chief Warrant Officer Flowers stand in front of headquarters building at CFBKingston on 27 August 2024

With the summer season coming to an end, the CFB Kingston Command Team hopes that everyone was able to make the most of the warm weather with their friends and family. As members return from leave and we welcome the arrival of new personnel, this is a good time for everyone to familiarise themselves with the Base services available for our personnel and their families. To our new members, take the time to get to know the community and see what CFB Kingston has to offer. There are a variety of support programs, fitness training, clubs, and events to make the transition easier. We also hope that everyone will take the time to properly welcome the new faces around the base and help situate them into their new positions.

September is a busy month with events being hosted all month long. At CFB Kingston, the National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign will run from September 6th- November 28th, with a kick-off breakfast on September 12th. This is an opportunity for members to donate to the various charities supported by the Defence Team, with a focus on charities involved with mental health, diversity, and the support of military families.

Other fundraisers like the annual Kingston Garrison Terry Fox Run, on September 13th, or the Canadian Walk for Veterans, on September 22nd, are occasions for members to come together and raise funds that help further cancer research (Terry Fox Run), or that provide veterans, active service members, and military families with support (Canadian Walk for Veterans).

Finally, September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a time to reflect on and honour the children who never returned from the residential schools, as well as the survivors, their families and communities. It is important to reflect on our past, so take the time to learn about our history.

We sincerely hope you make the most of your time here, become engaged in the community, and take advantage of everything CFB Kingston has to offer. By working together, we can make sure that the Base remains a fantastic place to work and live.
