Usually, getting a ticket from a police officer is not a pleasant experience, but for some members of the Defence Team, it can be! The 2 MP Regt Kingston Detachment, in partnership with McDonald’s, has implemented a “Positive Ticket” program for the local community.
While out on patrol, MPs often encounter youth in the community playing in and enjoying the outdoors, and, to encourage safety and good behaviour, the MPs are providing free ice cream cone vouchers to deserving children.
Behaviours deserving of a positive ticket include wearing helmets, picking up litter, and safely crossing the road.
Recently, two members of the MP detachment, Cpl Andrew La Plante and Cpl Richard Thomas, observed a group of children playing road hockey, and noted that they were adhering to good safety practices by wearing helmets. As a result, the officers served the children with “Positive Tickets,” and Cpl. La Plante took a moment to show them some hockey skills and join in a bit of fun.
The goal of this ticketing program is to create opportunities for positive engagement with the local community, especially the youth. Developing a sense of connection and trust between the local children and MPs allows for everyone to feel safer in their community, and creates opportunities for the younger members of the Defence Community to have their voices heard.
If you live in the Fort Henry Heights community, encourage your child to get outside and engage with their peers. Not only will they make new friends and create lifelong memories, but maybe they’ll be rewarded with a free ice cream cone!
CFB Kingston appreciates the support that 2 MP Regt Kingston Detachment provides for our community, and thanks its members for their dedication and service.
