Happy New Year, It’s 2024! With a new year starting, it is a great time to join a club or begin a new activity. Whether you are new to Kingston or want to find something new and fun for the new year, here are some ways to discover clubs and activities in Kingston.
Stay up to date with the personal development and wellbeing opportunities offered at the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC). The KMFRC offers many events, activities and workshops that occur weekly and monthly. For example, Coffee Connections is offered every Wednesday from 10am-11:30am; this drop-in group is an opportunity to make connections with people in your community and possibly find someone with shared interests. Similarly, L.I.N.K. is held on the third Wednesday of every month from 6pm-7:30pm; this event poses an opportunity to Learn, Integrate, Network, and Know about your community. The KMFRC also hosts other community connection activities tailored to specific populations such as: youth, new/expecting parents, and special needs families. To meet new people and help your community, consider becoming a KMFRC volunteer. For information about any of the above KMFRC activities, please see our website or Facebook.
If you are more interested in physical activities, the Personnel Support Program (PSP) is a great place to start. PSP can be found on Facebook and at cfmws.ca. Check out the Sports, Fitness, and Recreation page to discover upcoming offerings. PSP also has a variety of clubs for sports, cultural activities, and pastimes. Explore existing local and national clubs or propose a new club on the clubs page of the website.
Lastly, Kingston has a great public library system that is free for all Kingston residents. Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) has 18 branches throughout Kingston and area. The KFPL is more than just books; the library hosts programs and events, lends out museum and park passes, and has technology available for public use. The KFPL Central Branch has the Create Space; a location with many crafting technologies, available by appointment. They also offer information and resources for book clubs; start your own reading group and utilize the 150+ book club sets available to borrow. To access KFPL resources, find your closest branch and register for a Library Card.
This new year, rediscover the things you love to do! Find a new club or activity that you enjoy and embrace it. It is never too late to start something new. Have a happy and healthy 2024!
