October: Message from the Command Team

Canadian Forces Base Kingston Command Team, Base Commander Colonel Scott and Base Chief Warrant Officer Flowers stand in front of headquarters building at CFBKingston on 27 August 2024

After a hot summer, fall has finally started. We hope you made the most of the summer and took time to reconnect with your family and friends. We also wish all the new members on Base could familiarize themselves with their colleagues, their new home, and had a good start in Kingston.

September was a busy month at CFB Kingston with many events happening. We launched the National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign with a kick-off breakfast that has been a great success. We extend our thanks to those who volunteered to help create a strong start to this year’s campaign. Just a reminder, the campaign will continue until November 22, and there are various ways to contribute, including ePledge

The water taxi has stopped operating for the season, but this is with the anticipated expectation that we welcome the temporary modular bridge at LaSalle Causeway. Members who live on the west side will save time, and there will be a decrease in traffic to reach the Base. Introducing a new bus route will also provide more eco-friendly public transportation.

As the temperatures drop, we encourage you to continue enjoying outdoor activities. It’s essential to maintain a good fitness level and follow a healthy nutrition plan. Remember to take care of your overall health (physical, mental, family and spiritual). For your spiritual fitness, we are fortunate at CFB Kingston to have 13 chaplains offering different spiritual and religious services, including Roman Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist and Muslim. We also have an Indigenous Spiritual Advisor as part of the team.

It is also important to mention the Defence Advisory Groups (DAGs). DAGs provide the crucial information and perspectives that leaders need to consider before making decisions that affect our workplace. There is a DAG for each of the designated groups identified in the Employment Equity Act: women, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and 2SLGBTQI+ members. Learn more about these groups by contacting the Advisory Group leaders in Kingston via: https://cfmws.ca/kingston/kingston-garrison-defence-advisory-group

We acknowledge the time and effort that many CFB Kingston people put into supporting worthy causes. As the Command Team, we continue to be impressed by the exceptional work that takes place every day, and we are confident that despite the myriad of pressures you face, you will continue to provide excellence in your respective fields, be it in training, operations, or support.
