What’s Happening @ The Military C&E Museum

Join us for another great year of fabulous exhibits and activities in 2019. This January there are a lot of fun and new things to check out at the Military C&E Museum.  On January 25th the Museum will be having the Grand Opening of the Cipher | Decipher Travelling Exhibit. The Exhibit is already set up and will be here until the end of March. Got a Secret? Want to share it with a few trusted friends? One way to share your secret is to encrypt your message—that is, change it to something only your friends can understand. For all types of secrets—from schoolyard gossip to military plans—encryption keeps messages out of the wrong hands. The bilingual Cipher | Decipher Exhibition allows you to explore how encryption works, and how it affects our lives – from its role in war, to how we rely on it to keep our modern digital communications secure.

Cipher| Decipher was produced by Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation in partnership with Canada’s Communications Security Establishment.

This hands-on exhibition allows you to:

  • Learn to encrypt and decrypt secret messages
  • Understand how an Enigma machine works
  • Try your hand at logic puzzles and games

Improbable Escapes is still running at the Museum throughout the spring with an exciting Camp X inspired adventure. Participants are students at Camp X who must put their spy skills to the test and complete a number of spy themed puzzles. We provide you with a trench coat filled with clues and you supply the brains to solve it all! You will decode messages while you sleuth through the museum and uncover the mysteries of the past. This is an excellent team building experience and an activity which lends itself to fun competition. Suitable for adults and children alike. Admission $12.00 per person, free with a valid K-Pass. (Runs from June 2018-June 2019)

If playing a spy is not your thing then how about checking out the temporary displays commemorating the First World War including Vimy Remembered, and The Last Hundred Days.

Coming later in spring the Military Communications and Electronics Museum will be holding special family friendly activities during March Break (11-15 March 2019). The Museum will also be debuting its new permanent WWI display on the Curtis JN-4 Canuck this spring (look for the display opening date in the next issue).
