Royal Canadian Legion Branch 560 Helps Fund iCan Bike 2019

For the second year in a row, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 560 has donated $5,000 to ensure the iCan Bike program will be running again in 2019. The donation cheque was presented to the KMFRC at the Frontenac’s Military Appreciation hockey game on November 9.

The iCan Bike program is run by a partnership between the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC), the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 560, Kids Inclusive, iCan Shine, and CFB Kingston. The goal of the program is to teach children with physical or developmental challenges to ride a regular two-wheeled bicycle. And the successes can be seen on the children’s faces.

When Lauren was asked what she thought about the camp, her answer was “Awesome! I learned to ride my bike and I’m having fun.” The smile on her face spread from ear to ear and the excitement in her eyes warmed the hearts of everyone in attendance, especially Merrill Gooderham, the President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 560.

Merrill is also the Chairman of the Poppy Campaign and was quick to point out that every poppy donation that people make during the Remembrance Day campaign goes to helping programs like this one.

Thanks to the dedication of all the partners involved, the iCan Bike program will be running again in the summer of 2019 and teaching another group of Military children how to ride a two-wheeled bike.
