Sexual Assault Centre (SAC) Kingston: About the Organization and its Rapid Access Program

The Sexual Assault Centre (SAC) Kingston is a not-for-profit organization providing free, confidential, non-judgmental support for all survivors 12+ regardless of gender or identity of recent and/or historic sexual violence in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFL&A).

About the Rapid Access Program

This program allows individuals priority access to our Skills & Support counselling program.

This program is for:

  • CAF members: who we define as active members, reservists, retired members, RMC students, and staff.
  • Civilians employed by CAF or the DND
  • Broader CAF: this includes current and past partners of CAF members as well as immediate family members in a shared household

About our Counselling Services

We offer free bilingual counselling services, that seek to support survivors in different stages of their trauma and healing journey. We offer individual counselling for those of all genders and identities 12+, who have experienced recent and/or historic sexual violence.
Our team of counsellors consists of trained professionals (MSW, M.A Counselling, and SSW).
We offer bilingual counselling in-person (limited due to COVID-19), by phone, and via video e-counselling.

Our counselling program consists of two streams: Skills & Support and Reflect & Connect.

  • Skills & Support is for those new to counselling, this stream of counselling focuses on creating safety and stability. In this stream, survivors learn about trauma responses and coping skills. Skills & Support has a general duration of about 10 sessions.
  • Reflect & Connect is for survivors who have previous counselling experiences and developed coping skills. In this stream, survivors will build a deeper awareness of themselves. Survivors can focus on understanding their experiences and exploring patterns of thinking and feeling. General duration of services- On average 6 months. Many individuals go on to the Reflect & Connect program upon completion of the Skills & Support Program.

Referral process

Most clients access our service through self-referral, in order to prioritize survivor consent. So although it is possible to be referred by a practitioner it is not at all necessary or required.

Our Funders

This Rapid Access program for CAF and broader CAF members is made possible through funding from the Another Crossing Project. This is a three-year project (2020-23) is a partnership with Garrison Kingston funded by the Department of National Defense (DND) and administered by the Sexual Misconduct Response Centre (SMRC) to better support military survivors within our community.

The Sexual Assault Centre Kingston is thrilled to be able to offer rapid access to our counselling programs for survivors of sexual violence within the CAF and broader CAF community of Garrison Kingston. We know the courage it takes for survivors to reach out and ask for support, and that access to services in a timely fashion is a crucial component of the counselling journey. Thanks to our funders the DND (administered by the SMRC), survivors will not have to wait to access the resources they so deserve! We look forward to continuing to grow our partnership with Garrison Kingston and increasing our capacity to better support survivors within the CAF and broader CAF communities. – Trina Martin, Director of Counselling at Sexual Assault Centre Kingston
