CFB Kingston Knights Women’s Hockey Win Silver at Ontario Region Championship

From 25 to 28 January, the CFB Kingston Knights Women’s Hockey team made their way to CFB Borden for the Ontario Region Championship.  After a defeat in their first game, the team regrouped and started to become one winning the second game and changing the tone for the rest of the tournament.  They placed third overall in the round robin.

In the semi-finals, the team first played Petawawa and won.  During the second semi-final against Trenton, the Knights were down by two goals at the end of the second period.  Under the guidance and support of the coaches, goaltender Lyne Laurendeau held strong shutting the door and the game was won in the second overtime.

The team fought hard but the final was a very tough game with lots of injuries and fatigue starting to set in.  They placed second overall, winning silver at the championship.

“The team manager [Lt(N) Janet Lang] made everything possible with her excellent dedication and commitment to the team, to have the team best organized and supported.  The coaching staff also represented Kingston extremely well with their professionalism and leadership,” said Laurendeau.

The team had a special hat that was designed by coaches for the hardest working player that definitely helped players elevate their play while strengthening their bond.

“Kingston was the only team that found themselves playing the most amount of games with the difficult schedule, but it did not matter as they played each shift like it was their last.”

The Knights credit this approach and their commitment towards each other as the reason they found themselves in the finals, continually surprising their competitors as well by holding on until the buzzer came.

“Ultimately, the young core of players, coaches and older players proved their dedication to help represent CFB Kingston with a never-quit approach and should be remembered for years to come!”
