Striking up Some Fun!

On Monday 14 February, the Base Gym’s MVP program for Military Veterans hosted a Valentine’s Day event at Garrison Bowling Lanes. Although the current guidelines and protocols limited the number of participants the MVP Program could welcome, it did not stop the Veterans who were there from ‘striking’ up some fun!

This was the first time for Veterans Pat & Steve Callahan to participate in a public social event setting since March 2020 and they could not wait to express their experience once they got home.

“What a nice way to ease back into things,” writes Pat. “I will admit when Steve and our friends Phil and Marjorie Henderson first suggested the idea to me I was a little nervous as my outings have been minimal for so long. However, I am so happy that I decided to go.

The event was so well organized; we felt totally at ease and were able to really enjoy our afternoon of bowling. There were added, unexpected Valentine delights as well. The best part was hearing the laughter from all around us – even though we did not socialize with the other Veterans directly. The sound of people enjoying themselves was something we had not realized we had missed. Thank you for that.

These types are gatherings for a group that my husband and I are proud to be a part of (MVP) are such a wonderful idea and with things starting to open up, we hope to have more occasions to participate.

Thank-you to everyone involved; Garrison Bowling Lanes and the MVP Military Veteran Program.”
