30 September marks the start of CFB Kingston’s 2020 Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) in support of the United Way of KFL&A. This year’s theme within 4 Canadian Division is “Apart but together at heart,” a reference not only to COVID-19 distancing but also to the bonds that tie our community together.
In the first four months of COVID-19, over 42,000 people sought and received services from United Way, mainly those associated with emergency food distribution and homelessness. In 2019 with our help, they provided services to over 59,000 of our neighbours and friends. Together we can make our community stronger and show our Local Love.
Starting 1 Oct, sharpen up your brain bank for 6 weeks of Trivia over Zoom. Keep your eyes peeled (and your car stocked with change) on 31 Oct for the base’s Command Trolls – sorry, Command Teams – in the annual Troll Toll event. And there’s more.
We will hold two separate prize draws this year. The Mega Draw will total up to $10,000. Last year’s winner took in a respectable $2,950. Not bad for a toonie. There will also be a draw for several “smaller” prizes, including a Mess Kit from Andrei Master Tailors.
Last year was a record-breaking year for CFB Kingston, with the garrison raising over $300,000. This year, our focus is to increase participation, with a goal of 25% base wide. For this, we are implementing the new Epledge, making it even easier to donate and support a great cause.
Let’s close 2020 on a high note by helping those in need.
