Are you interested in learning how to code? Have you ever wondered about robotics? Are you between the ages of 12 and 18? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC) has an event for you. We will be holding a YOUth Matter STEAM/Robotics Night on June 17 from 4-7 pm.
This event will kick off with a presentation on coding from 4-5 pm. After this, from 5-6 pm, the Queen’s Connections Engineering Outreach will engage youth with a presentation on engineering, block coding, and using coding with robots or microcontrollers. Youth will be invited to continue their evening with hands on science experiments and an art project with KMFRC staff members. We ask that you register for this event using the following link https://cfmws.ca/kingston/events-activities/events/youth-matter-mondays-steam-and-robotics
YOUth Matter Mondays
The services and events we offer youth don’t end there. Every Monday evening from 4-7 pm (excluding holidays), we offer youth 12-18 from military families a drop in. This drop in features the opportunity to participate in fun activities, connect with other youth from military families, and learn about mental health and wellness. There is no registration for this drop-in.
The schedule for the month of June includes:
June 3: Youth will have the opportunity to learn about public speaking, including tips and how to be a more confident public speaker from one of our Military Family Navigators. They will have the chance to put these skills to the test by presenting on a variety of topics.
June 10: Youth will engage in mindful drawing/guided imagery. They will also be presented with their own sketch book and have the chance to watch videos teaching them how to sketch.
June 17: YOUth Matter STEAM/Robotics Night
June 24: The YOUth Matter team and military youth will be showing their pride by celebrating Pride Month. This event will include a variety of resources, information, and activities related to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
For more information on any of these services and events, please contact Youth Counsellor Theresa Brannen at 541-5010 ext. 3970 or youthcounsellor@kmfrc.com
