Youth Summer Employment – Plan ahead

Securing meaningful summer employment when faced with the unique challenges associated with the military lifestyle can be difficult to navigate – but it doesn’t have to be! Youth can receive dedicated 1:1 employment support through the five main employment agencies in Kingston. Many of these options also have Francophone support available!

These community partners are ready to help support youth through resume-building, skill development, applying for jobs, and interview preparation, while offering free internet access and printing services.

Looking for skill development opportunities? Youth can access free / low-cost certifications such as WHMIS and Smart Serve certification through Contact North

Any youth interested in working for the Ontario Public Service (OPS) over the summer can view open positions on the Government of Ontario website. Please be aware that applications for most OPS summer jobs typically close in late winter.

Do you have a youth with higher support needs? Community Living Kingston offers the Student Links program to help prepare youth for future learning and exploration of career options.

Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Student Links is an opportunity for students (ages 14 to 21) who have an intellectual disability to explore ideas for their future after high school. It matches students and mentors who share a common passion or interest. The goal is to enhance their capacity to make informed decisions about their future prior to leaving school and to support the natural development of relationships and connections to their community.

Any military connected youth ages 12-18 who would like to learn more about summer employment should attend the YOUth Matter drop-in event on January 20th, 2025, to hear from Devin Reynolds of KEYS Employment Services. He will be presenting at the KMFRC (32 Lundy’s Lane) from 5pm-6pm; however, youth are welcome to join us at the KMFRC starting at 4pm to connection with peers. For more details and information about other YOUth Matter events, please see our website
