It is hard to believe that we are already into the fall season. With the annual posting season over, fall training activities are kicking into high gear. Members from CFB Kingston have already been busy supporting tasks as diverse as the evacuation of Canadians and allies from Afghanistan to supporting the training and development of the next generation of soldiers and leaders. During my unit orientation, I reiterated to all defence team members that the people who make up our organization, are our most important resource and we must treat them as such. This is part of the culture change the Canadian Armed Forces is undergoing. We need to listen to what our people say about their lived experiences as part of the defence team. We need to ensure that we understand those experiences before we enact change. There is another side to looking after our people; looking after their physical security. To that end, the Military Police and the Base Auxiliary Security Force will be carrying out another incident response exercise near the end of the month. This type of exercise and the Base-wide Mass Notification System are important to me as ways to ensure the safety and security of all defence team members.
I am impressed with the level of vaccination and the following of public health measures here at CFB Kingston. All of your efforts have made this base a safe place to work since the start of the pandemic. However, complacency is the enemy, COVID fatigue is real, and we must remain vigilant as Canada experiences the fourth wave. We need to all work together to ensure that the defence team remains safe and healthy.
As we move into the fall, I look forward to seeing all the great work I know the CFB Kingston Team will deliver
