Command Team Message – September 2023

CFB Kingston Command team. Chief warrant Officer Prendergast and Colonel Hatoon. May 2 2023, CFB Kingston.

September is typically the start of the fall training cycle. We know this is a busy time, devoted to developing our soldiers, sailors and aviators and maintaining operational readiness in service to Canada. We hope everyone was able to enjoy a well-deserved break with family and friends this summer. September is a busy month for all military and civilian members of the Defence Team as we welcome new hires and those newly posted in. As you get settled and focused on your primary mission, be it training, operations, or support, we encourage everyone to become familiar with CFB Kingston and the units and entities that support our personnel, veterans, and their families. There are several dates to mark on your calendar:

  • September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day, and the CAF has resources available for you and your family if needed. CFMAP is available 24/7 at 1-800-268-7708.
  • September 11th to 15th is Garrison Discovery Week. Get to know the various clubs and entities available to everyone during the various open houses. This includes an Open House Annual General Meeting on September 13th.
  • September 15th is Military Family Appreciation Day. We understand that the start of the school year brings new and exciting challenges for families, and with that in mind I reiterate our commitment that CFB Kingston and the KMFRC will endeavor to fully support you and your families.
  • September 25th to 29th is Gender Equality Week, a great opportunity to reflect on the work the Defence Team has done towards gender equality but also a time to recognize what we can still improve.
  • September 30th is Truth and Reconciliation Day, a time to reflect on the mistakes of our past while endeavouring to improve relations in the future.

As APS comes to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome new members to the Base and our surrounding military and DND communities. Whether you have been in Kingston for a while, or you are new to the base, we encourage you to pick up a copy of the Fall Garrison Life Magazine and participate in the Garrison Discovery Week. The 2023 Welcome Guide can direct you to a wealth of resources, clubs, and services. It also has new, updated hours and contact information to get you connected. We sincerely believe this is one of

the best postings available to military members and we hope you make the most of this posting and get involved in our community.
