My commitment to improving the quality of life for the family and members of the Defence Team on this base is an unwavering priority. This is why I would like to take this moment to announce that we are starting a new initiative to aide in creating a stronger harmonious residential community at CFB Kingston. We will soon form a residential Community Council that will work towards a goal of betterment of the CFB Kingston community. This Council will bring together all segments of community interest and will provide a medium with which to enhance numerous quality of life aspects of the Residential Housing Unit and Living-In communities. The Council will have a board of governance formed of volunteers and will be empowered to make changes to the Residential community for their benefit. This benefit can be anywhere from community events to facility improvements and I see this as an opportunity for CAF members and their families to take up a leading role within their community and create a favorable environment for their loved ones while they are posted to this base. If any military or civilian members live on base are interested in being part of this new Community Council initiative, please show your interest via your chain of command and unit adjutants.
The month of March also has a couple of significant commemorative dates: 8 March – International Women’s Day and 21 March – International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The International Women’s Day will be observed on the base and the lead organizing unit will be 1 Engineer Support Unit (1 ESU). This year’s theme is Women Inspiring Women, and we expect to see several extraordinary women being highlighted across the base. There are also several national-level virtual events being held so stay tuned for more information by the Defence Women’s Advisory Organization.
This year’s International Day for the elimination of Racial Discrimination theme is Brave Spaces to Safe Spaces. The lead organizing unit is the Service Management Centre (SMC) of CFB Kingston and we are expecting to have a guest speaker, Ms. Rosemary Sadlier, to talk about the subject of inclusion. The event will be held at the Thompson Drill Hall on 23 March at 10h00, so please mark your calendars to not miss out. More information will be distributed by the Defence Visible Minority Advisory Group.
I believe that CFB Kingston is well-equipped to face any challenges that lie ahead of us and I am impressed daily at the level of support our Defence Team provides to all of our units, their members and their families.
