It is hard to believe that summer is now behind us, and we are quickly moving into the fall period and its associated increase in operational tempo. With many new personnel arriving in Kingston this APS, it is important for the Command Team to inform you about some of the resources available to you and your families. We also want to take the opportunity to highlight some of the incredible things that have already occurred in the short time since summer leave by the CFB Kingston Defence Team.
September has been a busy month for the Defence Team with CFB Kingston tasked to support a 180 pers contingent (Task Force OTTAWA) with parade preparations for the Operation LONDON BRIDGE parade in the National Capital Region to honor our Commander in Chief, Queen Elizabeth II.
Thank you to the amazing team, led by PSP Kingston, who were instrumental in the planning, conduct and execution of the Garrison Expo; conducted on 10 September, which was a huge success in advertising all of the amazing resources available to you and your families here at CFB Kingston.
On 14 September, the Garrison kicked off its annual Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) by hosting a pancake breakfast at Routledge Dining Hall. With this year’s amazing turnout, the campaign is getting off to a running start. The Defence Team plays a critical role in helping this campaign address the increasingly complex needs that exist within our community here in Kingston, and your generosity truly makes a difference.
On 16 September, military members, families, children, and even some very energetic dogs gathered at the McNaughton parade square for our annual Terry Fox run. The runners raised over $2500 to help in the research and fight against cancer, which has in some way touched each and every one of us. Thank you to everyone involved!
If you haven’t yet joined or played on a CFB Kingston Knights sports team, don’t miss out on the opportunity! After a couple of years without CAF sports, they have returned at the unit, Base, Regional and National levels. CFB Kingston was lucky to be selected as the host for both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Nationals from 27 Sep through 1 October and it was great to see these athletes out on the field competing to be the 2022 CAF Champions. CAF sports, on top of the physical and mental benefits they provide, have been proven to be recruiting and retentions tools for our members. After the last couple of sedentary years, let’s get out there and get active!
Our Kingston Garrison Defence Advisory Groups continue to evolve and are crucial advisors on ways to celebrate and observe key commemorative days in a respectful and inclusive way. If you are interested in joining one of these amazing groups or just want to learn more about them, visit or reach out to the Advisory Group leaders via: https://www.cafconnection.ca/Kingston/In-My-Community/Kingston-Garrison-Defence-Advisory-Group-(KGDAG).aspx
As the Command Team, we continue to be impressed by the exceptional work that takes place each and every day, and we are confident that despite the myriad of pressures you face, you will continue to provide excellence in your respective fields, be it in training, operations, or support to the above.
