Last message from Colonel Masson, Base Commander

As I write my final message, I want to emphasize my appreciation of the hard work that has been done during my tenure as the CFB Kingston base commander. The Defense Team has worked through unimaginable circumstances and has bounced back even better than before.

The APS is approaching, which entails moving in and out of the Kingston area. Last year, moving companies were deeply impacted by labour shortages, which created challenges for the CAF. This year, members can access established contingencies as per CANFORGEN 036/22, which is a marked changed from the ad hoc crisis response provided by CFB Kingston in 2021. All members must familiarize themselves with the pre-movement booklet and seek approval prior to pursuing any of these options.

During Canadian Environmental Week, from June 5-11, 2022, CFB Kingston is encouraged to participate in the Kingston Commuter Challenge. The Commuter Challenge is a friendly competition between Canadian cities that is focused on the use of environmentally friendly transportation methods to the workplace. [LINK]

The month of June is Pride Season, which sheds light on the resilience, skill, and contribution of the LGBTQ2+ communities among us. Appreciating diversity within our ranks helps us develop a broader understanding of teamwork and inclusivity- both critical keys to our organizational success.

In addition, June 21, 2022 is the National Indigenous Peoples Day. This day is used as a celebration of the heritage, cultures, and achievements of Indigenous peoples. Learning more about Indigenous cultures can expand our understanding of Canada’s past to improve its future. More information about both events can be found on the Kingston Garrison Defence Advisory Group (KGDAG) website. https://www.cafconnection.ca/Kingston/In-My-Community/Kingston-Garrison-Defence-Advisory-Group-(KGDAG).aspx.

I implore all members to keep learning and striving toward success in the years to come. I am continuously proud of the hard work that is put in daily, and I am eager to see what comes next for CFB Kingston.
