As we pull out our toques and gloves to brave the cold December weather, we’re also getting closer to the holiday season and block leave. After a very busy fall season here at CFB Kingston, we are very proud of the efforts put in by all members of the Defense Team to achieve success in their workplaces despite ubiquitous personnel and resource challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic percolating away in the background.

Thank you to all the members who participated in this year’s CAF Sports Day on 24 November! The participation in hockey, volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball, ultimate Frisbee, and 5-pin bowling was great. Team sports are a great way to build unit cohesion and comradery and it was great to see folks having lots of fun throughout the day.

As the National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign winds down, we want to express our sincere gratitude for all of the donations given by members of CFB Kingston. Your support to the local community is invaluable. With some final figures still to trickle in, we are at roughly 90% of our $210,000 goal. We are proud to say that CFB Kingston is currently the top performing base or group within Ontario, and the second highest performing base or region nationally, with a total of over $185,000 donated so far. Even the smallest of donations from our members helped contribute to this great outcome! Ninety cents of every dollar raised by United Way KFL&A goes to help someone in need, and your selfless donations will have a profound impact on the less fortunate members of the local community and those agencies that support them. If you haven’t donated, it is still possible to do so through the GCWCC website.

The upcoming holidays means that many units on base will be hosting events for their members and the Defense Community. We also encourage everyone to attend the various holiday activities on Base, such as Carols and the Christmas Tree lighting, The KMFRC Kids Christmas Party and other events. Holiday event information can be found on the CFB Kingston Facebook page and advertised around the base. Of course, drink or consume cannabis responsibly, don’t drive under the influence, and perhaps most importantly, be safe and take care of one another.

During your block leave, it is important to take time to disconnect from your work to unwind and spend time with friends and loved ones. As always, we appreciate the incredible hard work, dedication, and collaboration amongst the CFB Kingston Defense Team to achieve mission success across all units. We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
