With Remembrance Day quickly approaching, units are planning their attendance and involvement in parades and ceremonies across CFB Kingston and locally. For Defense Team members and their families who are looking to attend an upcoming ceremony, there are plenty of options to choose from.
At CFB Kingston, parades will be taking place at the Vimy Parade Square and McNaughton (RCEME) Gate. The Vimy Parade square ceremony, will commence at 1030hrs, with the parade square located beside the Routeledge Dining Hall. The McNaughton Gate parade will take place at 1025hrs, with 40 chairs and blankets available for spectators.
Close to CFB Kingston, a parade will be held in Barriefield, at the Red Patch Cenotaph, at the corner of Highways 2 and 15. Spectators are invited to arrive at 1015hrs, with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 1045hrs. Parking is available at the former high school parking, corner of Wellington and Drummond streets, in Barriefield Village.
RMC will be hosting a parade at the Memorial Arch, located at 3 Valour Drive. Spectators should arrive around 1030hrs.
The City of Kingston will be hosting their ceremony at the Cross of Sacrifice, which is found at King and George streets in McDonald Park. The contingent will march on at 1040hrs, with a wreath laying ceremony by the community at 0915hrs, and a wreath laying by military and veteran groups at 1015hrs.
Alternatively, another local ceremony will be taking place at King and Barrie streets in City Park, which will be conducted by retired gunner, Lieutenant-Colonel Bob Chamberlain. Spectators are welcome to attend the ceremony at 1045hrs.
For members who live closer to Gananoque, there will be a ceremony at the Gananoque Legion Branch # 92, at 55 King St E. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1030hrs, so spectators are asked to arrive by 1020hrs.
