A Message from LCol Pickell, Acting Base Commander

Base Chief Warrant Officer Cartier and Deputy Base Commander Pickell receive the Covid-19 vaccination from Corporal Gallant at the Thompson Drill hall on April 23, 2021. The unit is expected to ramp up to close to 600 vaccinations a day by end of next week at Canadian Forces Base Kingston, Kingston, Ontario.

Spring is finally here, COVID-19 Vaccines are rolling out in greater numbers, things are looking up and the excitement of the upcoming APS is in the air. This is all good news. However, we need to still exercise restraint and stay the course on public health measures.

The rollout of the CAF vaccine program in Kingston is fully underway and we are averaging 600 shots a day. This is a huge step forward. The civilian vaccination program is also continuing and civilians should check https://www.kflaph.ca/en/healthy-living/covid-19-vaccine.aspx for when and how to get vaccinated. Again this is all good news but we cannot afford to become complacent with following the health guidelines.

We in Kingston, along with the rest of the province will spend much of the month in shutdown, and it would be a mistake to assume everyone is doing well. 3-9 May is Mental Health Week and a reminder that we should take the time to look after our own mental health and support others. I encourage people to check out https://mentalhealthweek.ca and the PSP page https://www.cafconnection.ca/Kingston/Home.aspx if they are looking for help or need to support others.

The members of the Defence Team and their families have shown impressive resilience in dealing with the changes the last year has brought. Individual and unit training has continued and the base continues to support operations both foreign and domestic. There is light at the end of the tunnel and by working together we can help get there sooner.
