Highlighting Christina Baird

This week CFB Kingston is highlighting Christina Baird, a Service Management Centre (SMC) Kingston Project Manager from St. John’s, N.L. Christina is one of three Project Managers at SMC Kingston, making her a member of a small team that is responsible for supporting over 40 units across CFB Kingston with more complex technological requirements. SMC Project Managers typically act as a conduit between clients and partnered organizations such as Shared Services Canada. Christina’s job is very customer-service centric, with much of her communication being with military personnel.

Something that has allowed Christina and her team to navigate a combined military and civilian environment is their prior military service. The majority of civilian SMC Kingston personnel are ex-military, which allows them to understand the different ways of speaking and interacting that are often found in a military workplace. Christina is a former Signal Operator, having worked on CFB Kingston both in and out of uniform for over 20 years.

During her time on base, Christina has found that the fundamental aspects of maintaining an efficient and positive work environment are cohesion, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Christina believes that adding a personal flare to her work allows her to truly enjoy what she does, while also demonstrating unique and exceptional approaches. A major project that Christina recently contributed to was the installation of Wi-Fi for many units across the base. This project was a necessity to modernize the base while also greatly improving the morale of Kingston Defence Team members.

Creativity extends beyond the workplace for Christina, as she loves all forms of art in her personal life as well. Christina has two daughters that have allowed her to exercise her creativity during their upbringings, and has also had the opportunity to teach art in her community.

Christina brings authenticity and experience to her role at SMC Kingston, which makes her a key member of CFB Kingston. Thank you for all of you hard work and positivity, Christina!
