KMFRC Volunteer Profile: Margaret Poirier

The Kingston Military Family Resource Centre would like to thank ALL the volunteers who generously donate their time and talent to the Centre. You are ALL greatly appreciated. To ring in Jan 2018, we’d like to start by thanking one volunteer in particular, for her dedication and service, Margaret Poirier.

Margaret has enthusiastically volunteered with the KMFRC for the past 4 years and takes great pride in her craft tables at the CFB Kingston Children’s Christmas Party. If you see someone running around at light speed, making sure everyone has enough glue to stick glitter on their decorations, that’s Margaret. “I always take away a sense of pride and accomplishment at the end of my volunteering as I have done something to help others be happy, and life is about being happy.”

Born and raised in Lower Sackville Nova Scotia, Margaret has been a Military spouse for 33 years and she’s called Kingston “home” for the past 7. She has an adult son and daughter, whom she is proud to have raised in a military environment. “I have learned to be independent and to do the best with what I have. I know that the life of a military spouse has good times and bad, but the good times will always outweigh the bad.” Quick to share a smile or laugh, Margaret is well known at her current place of employment, the CFSCE Training Resource Centre.

On Nov 10th, 2017 Margaret’s significant volunteer contributions were celebrated by the Kingston Frontenac’s at their Remembrance Day game. She was nominated by the KMFRC to be their Community Volunteer of the Game. Margaret and her husband were able to enjoy an entertaining evening of great hockey, while being recognized for all her hard work, and a job well done!

Asked about her new year’s resolution for 2018, Margaret gave an insightful response. “I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions as they set me up for failure. I take it one day at a time, one small goal at a time, and hope every day I am doing the best I can and being the best person I can be.”
