NEW! Bike Repair Stands

PSP and the CFB Kingston Eco-Team have installed three new Bike Repair Stands at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre, Garrison Golf Club, and Routledge Dining Hall.

Save the date for the Commuter Challenge Roll-in Breakfast at the CANEX 0700-0900 hrs. on 03 June. In the meantime, maybe check out the CANEX for their eBike options from local providers iCycle and Trek Kingston.

Why commute by bike?

Biking is a great way to boost active living habits! Maintain activity while preventing injury by registering for Injury Reduction Strategies for Sports & Physical Activity (IRS) on 6 May, 1230 – 1600 hrs or requesting one for your unit!

Dress for the part

  • Turn on the lights, white on the front and red at the back. Take note, blinking lights are easier to see
  • Invest in a simple front or rear rack for panniers or bags to carry loads
  • Stay clean with fenders and a chain guard or rain pants to protect your clothes
  • Wear an ankle strap on the chain side to prevent pants from getting stuck in the gears

Ride Safely

  • Always wear a helmet
  • Ride with traffic, not against it
  • Obey all traffic signs, laws, and signals – this helps you be predictable and seen
  • Don’t ride on the sidewalk
  • Anticipate a parked car door opening when in busy areas
  • Ride with confidence, signal and take the lane when needed to avoid cars cutting close to pass
  • Always scan your shoulder before moving into center of the lane
  • Wear reflective clothing, being visible is the law
  • Choose a route that’s safe, avoids major highways, and maybe add a park or trail for fun!

Lock your bike

  • Use a reinforced chain around the frame and consider locking the wheel with a flexible lock as well.
  • Register your bike at 529 Garage, this will ensure your bike information is saved if it happens to be stolen to increase chances of recovery
